How it Began

My journey into the world of sewing and garment creation is one built on self-discovery and a relentless pursuit of knowledge. Even before diving into historical reenacting, my interest in the craft was sparked by engaging in 4-H summer quilting and sewing classes. These early experiences provided a foundational understanding of fabric manipulation and the satisfaction of creating with my own hands, undoubtedly fueling my later passion. As a self-taught seamstress, my education has been a hands-on exploration, guided by a personal library overflowing with resource books on techniques, pattern drafting, and the history of fashion. These invaluable texts are constant companions, regularly consulted to refine my skills and expand my understanding.

Interestingly, my involvement in historical reenacting, which began in 2018, played a pivotal role in shaping my career path. Immersing myself in the intricacies of historical clothing ignited a fascination with garment construction and the art of achieving an authentic fit. This passion for historical accuracy naturally led to an interest in alterations, understanding how to adapt and refine existing garments to achieve a specific silhouette and historical aesthetic. Beyond the pages of books, my most profound lessons have come directly from experience – from the intricacies of countless alterations to the unique challenges of custom projects, each stitch and seam has contributed to the expertise I bring to Dress Your Best.
